Wow! What a month this has been. If you read my last post you know I was back in Oklahoma for a while. I did get my short story turned in--on time, I might add. In between doctor's appointments, etc., I was going back and forth to Kansas. My grandfather had been ill. He passed away Monday. We buried him on Friday.
About eight, ten years ago, my grandmother asked me to do both their eulogies. I told her I would. Talk about waiting til the last minute to hit a deadline. However, I couldn't bring myself to write it earlier. I would start to and then be afraid he would die prematurely if I wrote it. So, I waited until about ten days ago, when it looked like the inevitable would happen. I wrote and rewrote and five minutes before I got up to give his eulogy, I was still rewriting. My word, how do you encapsulate a man's life in ten minutes?
I got up and gave it. I can truly say for all these years of writing and speaking, that was the absolute most difficult thing I have ever done. My grandmother was pleased and she was the one I was doing it for.
We got home late last night. Now, I am working on interview questions for some articles I am contracted to write. Life goes on.
Thank God for deadlines. I didn't want to get out of bed this morning. Would have been content to lie in bed, cover up my head allllll day long, but had to get up and get to work.
You get to work too.
Til Next Time, Keep Writing~
